The Ballad of Claire

Thank you all for voting… here’s your reward 🙂 Yes, it’s in a lower register than I normally do- I’ve got a wee touch of a cough going on. But hopefully you’ll still enjoy 🙂

The Ballad of Claire (words by Jeannie Hurley, melody “The Skye Boat Song”)

Chorus: Where have you gone

My dear bonnie lass

Wandrin’ the hills alone?

Slipped through a crack

In old Craigh na Dun

And wound up so long ago

Fairytales tell of travelers lost

Yearning to find their way

Look here he comes

A braw highland lad

Ready to save the day

Chorus

Stay with him now, Just bide a while

Until the coast is clear

Redcoats they hunt, searching for spies

Filling the land with fear

Where have you gone

My dear bonnie lass

Wandrin’ the hills alone

Searching to find old Craigh na Dun

And go home where you belong

Soon you will see the land that he loves

Home to his family seat

Traditions take hold

Family enfolds, driving your heart to beat

Where have you gone

My dear bonnie lass

Wandrin the hills alone?

Stay by my side, dear bonnie lass

At last you’ve found your home.

  1. Oh my gosh! That’s awesome!!! I’ve been wondering where the tune came from and have hardly been able to hear the lyrics on my computer. Makes everything so much more real…Yum.
